LO2 Task 3: Analysing a radio show

Talking Balls

Running Order
Music is played before the show starts and then the Talking Balls intro jingle is played. The show then starts with a catch up on the weeks events. In the broadcast I analysed an intro to the show was played. I could hear sounds like crowds cheering  and guitar solo. The cheering of the crowd helps connote the sports nature of the program. The next two thirds of the show are then filled with talk about football and a couple of other sports. There is then a quick break where adverts are played and then the rest of the show is the presenters talking about football.

Presenters
The presenters of this radio show are Adam Ellis, Joe Winson,  John Hemmingham, Simon Thake and Mr Sweet FA. Seeing as all the presenters know each other and are chatting about a subject they all love, the mode of address is informal and relaxed. An example of this is when they're talking about the women's Hockey Team in Sheffield. One of the presenters says "They're proper sports people them." This is not correct English and said in a very northern tone. There are times where they are formal and address the audience especially when they are asking peoples views on certain topics.

Content
Talking Balls is a tongue in cheek sports chat show looking at the latest sports news and stories, with both interviews, previews and competitions. Adverts are featured in the broadcast as well as an intro jingle. The show features debates between presenters heavily and takes up about 90% of this radio broadcast.

Target Audience
The target audience for this program are football fans. This means the audience can be very vast in age range. But I think the age range most likely to listen to the show are 35-60. Males are the most likely gender to listen to this. I would say the listeners of Talking Balls have a little disposable income as they will have to pay for tickets for football matches and any merchandise they want to own. Obviously they will be interested in football and maybe even other sports like rugby or racing.

The genres Sheffield Live! use are Comedy, Informative. They use these genres as they are popular in the local community. Talk shows, Music shows (chart, dance, RnB, Indie pop, African, Latin, Traditional, Asian pop, Jungle, Ragga, Reggae), News shows

C). Audience Profiles -

Sheffield Lives target audience is very wide they include many cultures, many age groups and consist of different financial positions their audience also includes different genders Sheffield Live wants to appeal to a big audience to be able to improve the community. The range of audience groups spread from A to C1.

D). Production Process -

Production process is how the different parts of the company work together to create the final product. Parts like Pre-production, Production, Post-production work together each doing their own thing to make/perfect the final piece. The company uses Vertical or Horizontal integration. The company Community Media Association could use Sheffield Live to produce and promote the product same as Sheffield Live could use Community Media Association and any resource they can offer.

E). Market share -

The main competitors of Sheffield live are BBC Radio Sheffield and Hallam FM. These companies are considered competitors as they have programs that have the same genre and therefore they have a possibility of stealing the shows audience and putting Sheffield Live out of business. Sheffield live stands out from the other companies as they have a wide variety of shows that appeal to many audiences. The official share of Sheffield live is %11 which is 275 000 people which is a good amount of audience as they are a non- profit company
